Kamloops tunes into the CBC

News, talk, sports and information are still the preferred choice of Kamloops radio listeners.

CBC Radio 1 and CHNL remain at the top of ratings mountain but have switched positions.

CBC is now number one in the market overall just overtaking CHNL.

The radio ratings released by the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement (BBM) shows 33 per cent of radios in Kamloops are listening to information based programming.

The six radio stations serving Kamloops and area were rated through BBM from Sept. 1 to Oct. 26

They show the overall ratings of all the stations in the market for the demographic of all listeners 12-years-old and up.

Using those measurements CHNL and CBC Radio take a combined 33.2 per cent share of the marketplace, down slightly from the numbers they held in June.

CBC moved up in the ratings now holding 16.9 percent of the market, up from 16 per cent in June. While CHNL dropped from 18.9 per cent of the market to 16.6 per cent.

98.3 CIFM has also moved up, taking third spot away from Country 103.1. CIFM now holds 15 per cent of the market share while 103.1 holds 14.4 per cent.

B-100 continues to hold fifth spot with a market share of 11.0 per cent while CHNL's sister station the River is at the bottom with 8.2 per cent.

BBM defines market share as the 'estimated total hours tuned to a particular station expressed as a percentage of total hours tuned to all radio stations.'

Radio stations in Kamloops are rated twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall.
