Terrifying abduction attempt

Police are investigating a chilling abduction attempt in which a man allegedly tried to drag a woman into a van in East Vancouver Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old woman was walking on Prince Albert Street near East 10th Avenue when a man grabbed her from behind, according to police.

Investigators say he dragged her to a dark green, older model minivan and then hit her in the head and face with an unknown object, according to CTV Vancouver.

She managed to fight off the attacker, causing him to fall back into the van, before running to a nearby home where she called 911.

Police were unable to find the van or the suspect.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment of minor physical injuries but police say she has suffered "significant emotional distress."

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, white, 6' tall and wearing a dark hoodie and gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call Vancouver Police's sex crimes unit at 604-717-0600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
