Charges have now been laid against a 71-year-old woman in connection with the death of an elderly woman in Kelowna early Sunday morning.
Sharon Marlene Scott appeared in a Kelowna courtroom Tuesday morning, charged with failure to stop at an accident causing bodily harm and two counts of failure to stop at an accident with a person.
Scott was arrested Sunday evening.
She was charged after 83-year-old Julie Gillespie was hit and killed by a vehicle in the alley between the Kelowna Daily Courier and the McWilliams Centre on Doyle Avenue.
The vehicle left the scene.
Scott is a contracted driver with the Kelowna Daily Courier.
She was on her way to the office early Sunday morning to pick up paper bundles at the time of the collision.
Gillespie was walking home when she was hit shortly after 1 a.m.
This is not the first time Scott has run afoul of the law while behind the wheel.
In January of 2008, she was cited for driving without reasonable consideration. Five months later, she was ticketed for failure to keep right of a broken or solid line.
