Big White delays opening

More delays for Okanagan mountains as the lack of snow is moving back opening dates.

Big White Ski Resort has announced they are being forced to delay their opening from this Thursday Nov. 27 to Saturday Nov. 29.

“We’ve been snow-dancing and praying to the snow gods, but unfortunately we don't yet have enough snow to provide enough cover for Thursday,” wrote the resort on their Facebook page.

Some mountain users shared disappointment in the news, but Big White was quick to note the 'opening day' changes from year to year depending on the snow.

Their earliest opening day on record was Oct. 20 in the 2000/2001 ski season and their latest was Dec. 11 in the 2002/2003 season.

The mountain says they hope to now be open Nov. 29, but are still dependant on the snow to make that happen.

They invite all Big White enthusiasts to stay tuned to their Facebook page, as they will announce Thursday at noon whether they can open this weekend or not.

As for the other local mountains; Silver Star, just outside of Vernon, has announced on their Facebook that they will officially open this Thursday. Kamloops ski resort, Sun Peaks opened Nov. 22 and Penticton ski resort, Apex Mountain reports on their Facebook page that they aim to open Dec. 6.
