Warriors nip Backs in OT

The West Kelowna Warriors blew a two goal lead, fought back to force overtime then got the game winner in double overtime for a thrilling 4-3 win over the Silverbacks in Salmon Arm Friday.

Newcomer Andrew Johnson scored the winning goal, his third in six games with the Warriors, with just 29 second left in the second overtime period.

The goal was set up by Jonathan Desbiens who fed Johnson on a two-on-one. Johnson wired a shot just under the bar.

The Warriors appeared to have the game well in hand leading 2-0 heading into the final period.

However, three goals in a span of 27 seconds early in the third put the Silverbacks up 3-2.

Josh Bly's second of the game midway through the third tied it and forced overtime.

Michael Buonincontri got the Warriors on the board just 12 seconds after the first puck was dropped. Bly made it 2-0 seven minutes later.

The game stayed that way until Salmon Arm's outburst early in the final frame.

The goal by Buonincontri was the second fastest goal to start a game in franchise history. The fastest was 11 seconds off the stick of Brett McKinnon on Feb 24, 2012 in a game against Prince George.

The Warriors outshot Salmon Arm 39-33 including 7-4 in overtime.

Andy Desautels returned to the Warriors net after missing last weekend's Island road trip, burning aside 30 shots for the win.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at Royal LePage Place in the Warriors annual "Fight Cancer" night.

Players will be wearing special pink jerseys which fans can bid on during the game.
