RDOS cancels open houses

Two RDOS public information meetings on agricultural signage and the keeping of livestock on small parcels have been cancelled.

The meetings were slated for 7 p.m., Oct. 21 in Penticton and 7 p.m., Oct. 23 in Oliver. RDOS planner Christopher Garrish said the cancellation was due to scheduling conflicts for area directors Allan Patton and Michael Brydon.

The informational open houses had been slated to provide information on proposed agricultural signage provisions and a review of livestock zoning regulations.

The proposed amendments for agricultural signs are a result of the Regional District's Highway Signage Enforcement Project, commenced in 2012, as well as comments received at a previous open house held in March, 2014.

Stakeholders advised at that open house that current regulations are unduly restrictive. In response, a number of amendments are proposed that would increase the number of signs permitted for a farm use.

In regards to the keeping of livestock in small holdings, a conflict in the zoning bylaws has been identified between the current regulations pertaining to the keeping of livestock and the prescribed setbacks for buildings, structures and areas for farm uses.
