Warriors edge Express in OT

Jordan Masters (19) had four assists as the West Kelowna Warriors edged Coquitlam 6-5 in overtime Tuesday.

The West Kelowna Warriors erased a two goal third period deficit en route to a come from behind 6-5 double overtime win in Coquitlam Tuesday.

It was the Warriors' second win over the Express in 10 days after beating the Mainland Division squad 6-2 to open the season.

The Warriors trailed 5-3 heading into the third period before Jonathan Desbiens heated up.

The Montreal native cut the deficit to one 12 minutes into the final frame then deflected home a Kristian Blumenschein point shot in the final minute to send the game to overtime.

Brett Mennear scored the game winner at 3:40 of the second overtime period when he banged home his own rebound past Express netminder Braden Krogfoss.

The game winner came just moments after Jordon Masters had a great chance to seal the victory, however, Krogfoss made a spectacular save on a penalty shot to keep the game tied.

The Warriors scratched and clawed their way back all night, trailing by two goals on three different occasions.

The Express led 2-0 by the 11 minute mark of the first before the Warriors began chipping away.

Jason Cotton on a late first period power-play and Ryan Ivey early in the second evened the score at 2-2.

The Express regained their two goal lead with a pair of goals 10 seconds apart midway through the second.

The second goal spelled the end of the night for starter Scott Patton who was relieved by Andy Desautels who went the rest of the way for the Warriors.

Newly acquired Michael Buonincontri again cut the deficit to one before the Express re-took the two goal lead late in the second.

Buonincontri, playing his first game in a Warriors uniform left the game after taking a big hit during his goal and did not return.

Masters had four assists in the game while Liam Blackburn chipped in with three helpers.

The Warriors, 4-1 on the year, return home to host the Merritt Centennials Saturday night and the Cowichan Valley Capitals Sunday.
