Excess speed costs man his truck

A 23-year-old Terrace man found out the hard way that it pays to be aware of your surroundings.

The man has lost his vehicle for seven days and also faces a hefty fine after he was found speeding through a school zone Tuesday morning.

Cst. Kris Clark says the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was clocked going 90 km/h through a 30 km/h school zone on Oyama Road.

School was in recess and a large group of children were playing out on the field near the roadway," says Clark.

"The driver stopped immediately upon police direction to pull over and was apparently unaware it was a school zone."

The driver was issued a ticket for excessive speeding plus a notice of impoundment.

Speeding in a school zone carries a fine of $196-$253 while excessive speeding carries a fine of $368-$483 plus a mandatory 7-day vehicle impound.
