RCMP truck goes off cliff

Lumby RCMP had to rush to the scene after one of their own went down a cliff.

According to RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk, the officer was responding to a report of a drunk driver on Creighton Valley Road when he, for currently unknown reasons, lost control and ended up down a cliff.

It happened just around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, fortunately the officer was able to extract himself from the flipped truck and climb back up to the road.

“He failed to negotiate a corner on the road, the truck went over an embankment and rolled coming to rest next to a tree approximately 15-feet from the lake,” says Molendyk. “He was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital to be checked out and treated for minor injuries.”

The officer has since been released from hospital and an RCMP traffic re-constructionist is investigating the cause of the crash.

The reported drunk driver was never found nor were they related to the officer's crash.
