Toronto police were hunting for a 17-year-old boy after a 19-year-old was killed in a stabbing at a high school in the city's northwest end on Tuesday.

Officers were called to North Albion Collegiate Institute around 12:45 p.m. with reports of a male student suffering from multiple stab wounds.

When authorities arrived, they found the teen with no vital signs, police said.

The student, whose name is not being released, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital, said Sidhu.

The school was locked down in the wake of the incident with officers conducting a "walk-through" of the premise, police said. Nearby high schools were also secured as a precaution.

Officers cleared the school where the stabbing took place one classroom at a time, searching the entire building through the afternoon.

Police are now reviewing video surveillance from the school and officers are searching areas around the building, Sidhu said.

"The investigation is ongoing," she said.

Police are looking for a male suspect, believed to be a student, who is described as about 17 years old, black, with a medium build, wearing a blue T-shirt.
