Robbery suspect taken down

Kamloops RCMP received two separate reports of robberies Friday afternoon.

The calls came in at approximately 1:45 p.m.

  • One call was to the Tranquille Market at the corner of 12th Street and Tranquille Road where a male had reportedly robbed the clerk, and may have had a firearm.
  • The other call indicated that a female had been robbed by a male, who was last seen running on foot towards Lethbridge Avenue.

The suspect description in both instances was similar. As police were responding to the calls, further information was received that the suspect may have gone into a housing complex on the corner of Singh Street and Lethbridge Ave.

Police surrounded the suspected residence and removed occupants from neighbouring units to ensure their safety. Numerous attempts were made to contact the individual inside the residence without any response.

Police utilized emergency response team members to enter the residence and search for the suspect. A 43-year-old male was located hiding inside the residence and was taken into police custody without incident.

While searching the residence for the suspect, police seized two BB guns. The investigation is ongoing.
