Suspicious fire overnight

The streak of 'no' suspicious fires in Vernon has ended.

A suspicious fire was called in shortly after midnight Friday and was in the same abandoned residence of another suspicious fire that occurred in June.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says police are now looking into the fire in the 3800 block of 30th Avenue.

He says there the latest fire caused no new structural damage and it was lit near where the previous fire was.

Molendyk says the area is frequented by 'transients' so it is very hard to tell whether the fire was set randomly or by the same 'arsonist(s)' who plagued Vernon this summer.

“This is in an area where we do have a lot of transient people in and around so it is really hard to say what happened. We know it is suspicious but it is hard to say what happened.”

RCMP and Fire Investigators are on the scene today completing their investigation.
