Mom petitions govt, teachers

A Kelowna woman is calling for the BC Teachers' Union and the BC Government to televise the next round of negotiations.

Tera Pemberton feels that with an issue that affects the lives of so many children and families, more clarity and transparency is required.

If this petition is successful, she hopes it will help clear the issue up for the general public.

"It really doesn’t matter if you side for the teachers, or you’re for the government position," said Tera Pemberton in an email. "It has gone on long enough that we as the taxpayers of BC deserve to have full disclosure."

Pemberton said she wants to have it aired on live TV so that taxpayers can see what both sides are proposing, opposing and where they are compromising.

The two sides do not appear to be getting any closer to a negotiated settlement and each side accuses the other of slowing the process.

"Let's get this resolved. No one knows what to believe anymore, and it is our children who are paying the price."

The online petition can be found here.
