Fire destroys house

A fire destroyed a house near Westside Road Monday morning.

Emergency crews responded around 9:30 a.m. to smoke and flames coming from a home on Pinecrest Road west of Vernon.

Firefighters on the scene said they did not yet know what caused the fire. A fire inspector has yet to complete a report on the incident.

No people or pets were inside the building when the fire began.

A witness told Castanet that there was also a grow op inside the building, which was confirmed by Vernon RCMP.

Cpl Seniuk said "At this time it is unknown whether it is a licensed grow operation or not."

It does not immediately appear that the fire began in the growing area.

The flames were contained before the surrounding forest was ignited. There was also another house nearby that escaped unscathed.

BC Ambulance also responded as a routine precaution.
