Knox, Dilworth parks reopen

Two recreational areas in Kelowna closed due to the fire hazard have now reopened.

Knox Mountain Drive, up to the first lookout, is now open. However, the upper portion of Knox Mountain Drive will remain closed to vehicles until the risk is re-evaluated next week.

Dilworth Mountain Park, closed earlier this month due to the fire hazard, has also reopened.

Andrew Hunsberger, Urban Forest Health Technician with the City of Kelowna, says the change in weather has helped.

“The rain and cooler weather may not appeal to everyone, but we can all agree that our parks and natural areas needed it,” said Hunsberger.

Hunsberger adds anyone using the parks should still keep their guard up.

"Even though the risk of fire has decreased, we do still ask that park visitors continue to use caution while in the parks.”

Anyone noticing smoke or fire in any park should immediately call *5-5-5-5, the BC Wildfire Management Branch, or 9-1-1.
