Mission serves lobster

A surprise delivery from a courier company had the guests of at Kelowna Gospel Mission eating like kings.

According to the media communications officer for the mission, Ami Catriona, they got a surprising early morning call from a courier company.

“Would we like some lobster? Lobster? Really? Ok, yes I think we would,” laughs Catriona.

As it turns out a shipment of fresh Atlantic lobsters had been damaged, and the courier company needed to find someone to take it, or they would have had to throw them out.

Catriona says Pastor Lester rushed to rescue the abandoned crustaceans, while Matt, their cook, readied two big pots of salted boiling water.

The pastor arrived back at the mission a short time later with two huge boxes, broken and falling apart, with lobsters in “various states of disarray.”

Together the staff spent all afternoon cooking the often unattainable expensive kings of the culinary world.

“We had to get an extra couple of hands on deck to separate the claws and tails, but it was worth it,” says Catriona. “Last night, Kelowna's Gospel Mission had a serious seafood fiesta dinner. On the menu, lobster and sole with fresh garden salad, all courtesy of an 'accident'.”

The mission says every day they are very grateful for the donations that are provided to them.

“And, every day there is always something different, but never in a million years did we dream of something like lobster!”
