A Kelowna teen faces possible impaired driving charges after a crash late Wednesday night that sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.
Shortly before midnight, police were called to a single vehicle crash on Springfield Road near Hollywood Road South.
Police say a black Chevy Blazer sheared off a street lamp, flipped over and caught fire.
Emergency crews were able to extinguish the blaze before it fully engulfed the vehicle.
"Police noted a strong odour of liquor on the driver and started an impaired investigation," says Cst. Kris Clark.
"The driver blew a 'Fail' during a roadside test, but required medical attention and was taken to the hospital for treatment. A blood demand was made and a sample of his blood was taken for the investigation."
Clark says one passenger suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries while a second passenger escaped the crash unhurt.
The 19-year-old Kelowna driver faces potential charges of Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Driving While Over .08, pending the results of the analysis of his blood.
He was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and released into medical care.
