The police are continuing to investigate a hit and run fatality in Penticton and are requesting public assistance in moving the investigation forward.

At approximately 4:40 a.m., on Aug. 12, the Penticton RCMP received a report of a body lying in the middle of Skaha Lake Road near Lee Avenue, adjacent to Skaha Lake Park.

Officers attended the scene and located a deceased male, later identified as 25-year-old Scott Michaud. Michaud was a resident of Penticton, with ties to Princeton

Michaud's injuries were consistent with having been struck by a vehicle. The incident is believed to have occurred a short time prior to police arrival, and the driver responsible did not remain at the scene.

The police investigation has led to the identification of some vehicles that drove past the scene during the time prior to the incident. The drivers of those vehicles have been spoken to which has assisted the police in learning what may have happened to Michaud.

It has also become apparent that there are additional witnesses who drove past the location but may not have realized at the time what they saw on the roadway.

Witnesses may have also observed Michaud while standing at or near the scene. He was wearing shorts, a golf shirt, and was carrying two backpacks and a square cooler bag at the time of the incident.

The RCMP is asking those witnesses, regardless of what their observations were, to come forward to police. In particular, they are interested in speaking to people who drove southbound or northbound on Skaha Lake Road between 4 a.m. to 4:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12.  

Police are also seeking any other information, including any video surveillance at or near the scene.

Anyone with information may help bring resolution to this investigation and some closure for Michaud's family.
