Is your business on a hamster wheel?

Being productive is not the same as busyness. A hamster wheel provides a great analogy of burning time and excessive energy with having no plan, direction, or purpose.

Productive is utilizing your day to be the most effective and efficient. Busyness creates clutter, confusion, lack of direction and loss of valuable time. You can run fast but it is tough to reach anywhere if you do not have a plan in place.

“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” ~ Paul J. Meyer

Wikipedia describes productivity as a measure of the efficiency of production. It is creating the time commitment, the energy to persevere and the attention to stay on track toward completion. For maximum results, prioritize your day by utilizing your time, energy, and attention to complete task effectively and efficiently. Here are three ways to stay productive:

Time

Productivity is using your time efficiently and effectively. We all have the same amount of time in our day to accomplish activities. Consider scheduling commitments on your calendar for business, meetings, family and entertainment. Prioritize by the level of value for each commitment you feel it deserves.

Energy

Our energy levels are different throughout the day. Maximize your energy by prioritizing your time to focus on a specific task. My energy level is at its peak in the mornings. It is when my mind is fresh allowing me to do my best writing and my creative juices to flow. In the afternoon, I enjoy a walk along the beach to provide space in my mind to create new ideas or explore new areas of interest.

Attention

Attention is in the details that make you stand out from the rest. When you listen to your client requests, they will take notice of the finishing touch and the extra details. It leaves them with a positive impression and your signature of excellence of paying attention to the details.

Productivity is not perfection - rather it is allowing creative juices to flow. It is clarity, accomplishment, completion, thinking ahead, moving forward, and goal-setting. With a clear plan and direction, your business is then being executed productively.
