Hwy. 1 crash, 8 injured

On Sunday afternoon, August 17th at 3:16 p.m., Chase RCMP received a report of two SUVs that had collided at the intersection of Shuswap Avenue and Highway 1 in Chase BC.

The Chase RCMP and BC Ambulance Service attended the scene where eight people were found to have varying degrees of injury. Chase Fire Rescue and JPW Highways Maintenance assisted at the scene. Air Ambulance attended the scene and transported some of the injured persons to Royal Inland Hospital.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and Highway 1 was closed to moving traffic for three hours. Highway traffic was re-routed through the Village of Chase.

It is suspected that a grey Toyota SUV failed to yield to on-coming traffic and collided with a westbound SUV.

Alcohol and speed are not suspected, however heavy vehicle traffic at the location may have been a contributing factor.

The Chase RCMP continues to investigate.
