A fire in Lake Country overnight might have been the result of careless smoking.
Director of Protective Services Steve Windsor says fire crews were called out just after 1 a.m. to a blaze on Tyndall Road. Windsor says crews had no problem putting out the fire, but remained on the scene until 7 a.m watching hot spots.
Tyndall Road is home to a spot frequently used by youth for gatherings and parties, and residents have complained kids have started bonfires recently despite the dry conditions and fire bans.
"It was human caused, we think smoking" said Windsor, but added the fire was further south than the spot usually used by groups of young people.
"It was on the low side of the road, and the road itself, which is a gravel road, gave us a good fire break."
No homes were threatened. Despite extremely dry conditions, Windsor says Lake Country has been lucky so far.
"It's been fairly quiet, touch wood."
The only other fire of note started after a vehicle fire on Oyama Road earlier this month. It was quickly extinguished.
