Racetrack crash

Rob Seeger emailed Castanet to say "there was no fire at the accident at Thunder Mountain raceway."

After the crash there was a unanimous decision to continue racing by the racers he said.

The reported explosion was actually the car impacting a safety barrel filled with water.

"They did a good job," Seeger said. "Probably saved his life."

Senior Vice President at Thunder Mountain Raceway, Doug Dippel, says the driver is in hospital but doing fine.

"He’s going to be sore for a few days, but he should be OK," says Dippel.

“From all accounts, when he crossed the finish line, he hit the wall going about 120 miles per hour.

“All I know is that he does have a concussion, a little bit of neck injuries, and he’s in intensive care right now – just under observation to keep him comfortable."

Dippel says its an unfortunate accident, but part of drag racing.
