Runaway tug boat

A reader has told Castanet the name of the tugboat is the MV Okanagan.

It was being restored when it broke away from its mooring.

Check back for updates in the morning.

Windy conditions in the Central Okanagan Saturday may have caused a tugboat to break free of its mooring and go for a free float today.

Just after 4 p.m. a call went out for a marine rescue; a boat was on the loose in the north end of Okanagan Lake.

A witness said it appeared the boat had broken free from the west shore. It eventually ran aground close to the east shore of the lake on First Nations land.

An RCMP boat responded and investigated the scene. Rescue boats are also attending. It was not clear who owned the boat.

Nobody was on board and there were no injuries during the ghost ride.
