Brush fire in Kamloops

The Kamloops fire department and BC Forest firefighters were called into action on an aggressive brush fire near Westsyde Road Friday afternoon.

The report came in around 5 p.m. and BC Wildfire had 10 fire fighters head out there with the assistance of air tankers.

It was roughly a hectare in size and it was on a hillside behind some residential areas.

Melissa Klassen with BC Wildfire said "it was a great effort by RCMP, BC Ambulance, Kamloops fire rescue and BC Wildfire. Our only assistance was laying retardant on the fire and in helping the mop up.

The plume of smoke could be seen for several kilometres, but crews were able to quickly contain it.

Within an hour or two the fire had calmed down.
