Another boat set ablaze

As the list of suspicious fires in the North Okanagan grows, a boat fire north of Vernon has police investigators stretching their work north.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says that on May 31 at about 10:40 p.m. emergency personal were called to a fire in a compound at 143 L&A Cross Rd. for a report of a boat on fire.

“The fire was extinguished by the Armstrong Fire Dept. and at this time it would appear to be suspicious in nature,” says Molendyk.

He says that one boat was completely destroyed and a second boat sustained some heat damage.

Even though this fire is much further north than the rest of the suspicious fires targeting Vernon, Molendyk says they have not ruled out it may be the same arsonist/s.

“Again it is a suspicious fire in a light industrial area, there is a possibility they are linked,” says Molendyk. “The same officers involved in the unsolved suspicious fires are looking at it for sure.”

Police are looking for help to solve the case and are asking everyone to keep their eyes open and anyone who sees anything suspicious, no matter where, to call right away.

If you have information about these fires call the Vernon RCMP (250) 545-7171, the Vernon Fire Department (250) 542-5361 or Crime Stoppers.
