Curfew check nets drug bust

A late evening curfew check of an offender on probation turned up a lot more than expected.

“This one comes under perhaps the not so bright file,” said RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk.

On April 22 just before 1 a.m. one of our officers conducted a curfew check on a man bound by a daily curfew to be in his home from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“While our officer was walking by his window he looked in and noticed the suspect was cutting a substance with a razor blade,” explained Molendyk. Several other people were at the home as well.

The 22-year-old suspect was arrested and returned to cells.

“A search warrant was obtained for the residence and approximately 50 grams of suspected cocaine, about the same amount in marijuana, two phones and other drug trafficking related items were seized.”

The suspect is expected to appear in court Tuesday to answer to drug charges.

The other people in the residence were released without charges.

“These individuals are bound by curfew and we are set to deal with some of these individuals who are on curfew to make sure that they comply. They can be checked once or a twice a night. And if they fall under our prolific offender program, then we really monitor them to make sure they abide by their court order rules,” added Molendyk.
