Alberta's new premier officially starts work today.
Dave Hancock will be sworn in as acting premier at Government House.
He takes over from Alison Redford, who announced her resignation Wednesday over criticism about her spending habits and personality.
Hancock, who is deputy premier as well as the longest-serving minister in cabinet, was selected by the governing Progressive Conservative caucus.
The PC party executive is to meet Monday to set out the timeline for a leadership race.
Hancock says he will not be a candidate for a permanent replacement.
