Business destroyed

At 12:20 on February 26, the Kelowna Fire Department received a Direct Alarm call for Northern Lite Mfg Ltd located at 322 Totom Court in Kelowna.

First arriving fire fighters noted heavy smoke coming from the exterior of the building near the building’s west side entrance that was quickly extending into the roof area.

The Kelowna fire department had 30 firefighters from five stations working on the fire. They were supported by five engines, one Ladder truck, one rescue unit, one Hazmat vehicle and a command unit. A Safety Officer and the Deputy Chief were also on location.  RCMP responded to assist with traffic control and BC Ambulance sent two ambulances.

Due to the volatile nature of the fire and fuel load within, the fire soon consumed the entire roof of the structure causing a collapse.

No fire fighters were inside at the time of the collapse and no injuries were sustained.

The Ministry of Environment and the Cities utilities were contacted due to the proximity of a nearby creek.

Kelowna Deputy Fire Chief Larry Holier says, "Currently our Hazmat team is mitigating any run off from the fire site and working closely with City providing updates to the Ministry of Environment."
