Avalanche risk force highway closures

High-avalanche hazards have forced the provincial government to close several stretches of highway in British Columbia's northwest.

The Ministry of Transportation says Highway 37 is closed in both directions between the Bell 2 Bridge and the Bob Quinn Lake Maintenance Contractor Yard, and between the Dease River Bridge and Good Hope Lake.

Highway 37A is also closed in both directions between Stewart and the Meziadin Junction.

Still in the northwest, the high-avalanche hazard has forced the closure of Highway 51 from Telegraph Creek to the junction with Highway 37.

Highway 1 between Field and the Alberta border reopened earlier Tuesday after being closed for a day because of the threat of an avalanche.
