Deer head upsets local walking her dog

Local Kelownian Marina Mckenzie joined friends for a regular Saturday afternoon walk near the end of Gordon Road in south Kelowna.

However shortly after she entered the park area a severed deer head startled the group.

“The head was extremely visible, really disturbing, I was totally pissed off when I saw it,” explained McKenzie.

She believes it was not a random attack by an animal that put the head in her path but rather the act of a local hunter.

“It looked like a hunter had severed its head off and taken the antlers.”

McKenzie was shocked to see something so gruesome; especially considering the area was full of children, adults, and many dogs.

“You know I don’t know what the rules and regulations are, we saw kids out there with what we thought were guns and they turned out to be pellet guns, you know they are out there shooting at whatever and people are on dirt bikes and there is glass and people dump their garbage there, it is pretty gross,” shared McKenzie,

She wants answers from the district as to whose responsibility it is to prevent this from happening but also if hunters are allowed to do this, who has to clean up after them?

“If somebody did do this, are they allowed to do it? And are they allowed to just leave it there for people to see?” asks McKenzie,

“That whole area up there has turned into something else, lots of dumping, crazy parties, and people hunting.

The dirt bikers use it, they use this one hill in particular and are just destroying it.”

McKenzie was shaken by the incident and will not return to that area with her dog, she is going to call the district and report what she saw Monday morning.
