About Castanet
Castanet.net is an online medium for Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon. We offer up-to-date local news, information, classifieds, weather, events, forums, audio, video, and photos and much more. We launched on November 1, 2000.
Until January 29, 2007 we operated in conjunction with our sister operation 101-5 Silk FM. On that date we sold our radio holdings to Standard Radio (now owned by Astral Media). Castanet Media Ltd. continues to be owned by J. Nicholas Frost.

Site technical requirements
Our site is best viewed in Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher or Firefox 1.5 or higher for at 800 X 600 screen resolution or better. We attempt to follow the W3C XML 1.0 Strict and HTML 4.01 Transitional standards as closely as we can on all our pages.
Java: Some parts of our website makes use of Java. If you think you are not seeing all elements of our site, chances are you don't have Java turned on in your browser. To turn on Java in Internet Explorer click TOOLS then OPTIONS then click the ADVANCED TAB. Make sure that "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled (requires restart)" is checked on. If this doesn't work you need to diagnose the problem further by reading this article from Microsoft. Alternatively you may need to install a different version of Java.
Cookies: We use cookies to remember which edition of our site that you prefer, as well as your username and password to access the forums and classifieds. If you are having trouble with our classifieds, click HELP GUIDE, on our classifieds menu.
Flash: You must have Macromedia Flash player 8.0 or higher to view many of the local ads on our site as well as videos posted on our site October 2006 and newer. Most every computer should be able to play it without any additional configuration. If not, visit Adobe's site to download it.
PDF: Many of our story file attachments utilize Adobe Reader. Visit Adobe's site to download it.
Audio: The audio on our site is always in standard .MP3 format. Most every computer should be able to play it without any additional configuration.
Legacy Video: Some video in our archive uses Windows Media Player version 9.0 or higher.
